2020 NBA Lottery open thread

It’s time, people! Maybe simultaneously the most looked-forward-to and disappointing day of the year for Knicks fans: the draft lottery.

Tonight, the Knicks have the sixth-best odds at obtaining a top pick in the lotto. In case you forgot, that breaks down like so:

Pick 1: 9%
Pick 2: 9.2%
Pick 3: 9.4%
Pick 4: 9.6%
Pick 6: 8.6%
Pick 7: 29.8%
Pick 8: 20.6%
Pick 9: 3.7%
Pick 10: 0.1%

Rest assured, if there’s a way for the Knicks to get hopped by four teams with that 0.1% chance, it’ll happen. If you just go in thinking that that’s definitely what the outcome will be, there’s no way you can come away disappointed! Gotta think like a Knicks fan here, considering the team has not moved up in the lotto since the inaugural one in 1985 that netted them a guy named Patrick Ewing.

The lotto starts at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN. Comment along here, and stay tuned for the result!

UPDATE: The Knicks will be picking at the eighth spot in the NBA Draft. It was about a one in five chance that that would happen. At least they didn’t end up with the 0.1% option! We’ll have a full reaction to the lotto and what it means for the Knicks in the morning.
