Hawks 103, Knicks 89: Game 5 Postgame Reaction

Despite their best efforts, the New York Knicks have suffered a gentleman’s sweep (4-1) at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks with their Game 5 loss.

One paragraph to describe the game

From the jump, the New York Knicks showed a resilience that we’d not seen in what feels like the entire series. It wasn’t enough to put away an Atlanta Hawks team that smelled the blood in the water however. New York’s starters combined to shoot 22-of-60 from the field, and Julius Randle had eight turnovers. There’s the basketball game right there.

Game ball

Immanuel Quickley: 11 points, 2 steals in 13 minutes

There isn’t a highlight clip (that I can find) to put here. But shoutout to the rookie for staying ready. He deserved more playing time, but that’s a different conversation. What matters is that when Tom Thibodeau ultimately elected to give it to him, he showed up, providing the slightest silver lining in this one.

Big stat

It may not be the most relevant line from this one, but there was a 26 to 18 free throw disparity, you guessed it, in the Atlanta Hawks favor. I truly think we’ll look back and question some of the calls from this series in the years to come.

Unsung hero

Reggie Bullock: 12 points (4-of-8 3PT)

Shoutout to Reggie Bullock for getting his act together. All four of his threes came in the first half, but he rebounded after two god awful games in Atlanta. It was nice to see someone go out on somewhat of a high note.
